Fish Salad

Image
Kosher Jews do not eat shellfish such as crab, lobster and shrimp.  There is a faux fish made for each of these and perhaps for other prohibited shellfish.  I doubt, they taste the same or even similar, but they are good. When these first came to my awareness, I did not want to buy them.  I was uncomfortable with the idea.  Gradually, I realized, if they are allowed and made from fish we do eat, why not try them.  I did and I liked the fish.  I particularly like to take the fake shrimp and add some butter and garlic to it. It is delicious. I decided to make a faux crab meat salad.  The mock crab is fully cooked so all I had to do was cut it up into smaller pieces.  I added a few ingredients and had a nice fish salad. Mock Crab Meat Salad Ingredients: 1 cup faux crab 2 tablespoons mayonnaise 1/8 teaspoon black pepper 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice 1/4 teaspoon sugar 2 tablespoons celery, chopped fine Method: Cut fish into small p...

Crabby Cheese Puffs Made Kosher

Image
I made these, for the first time, last Chanukah and they were gobbled up.  It is sad, I did not think to make them again, until this Chanukah.  Something so delicious should be presented many times, over the year.  The question is whether I will learn my lesson and make these again, before next Chanukah. Crabby Cheese Puffs Made Kosher Ingredients: oil for frying (Olive) 4 ounces kosher mock crab 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon sesame oil 1 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce  4 ounces whipped, cream cheese which I microwaved for 20 seconds on medium 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1 chopped onion 1 teaspoon dried parsley 1/2 cup diced scallions Method: Heat oil in large skillet. Mix softened cream cheese, with all other ingredients. Using a cookie scoop (tablespoon measure) drop scoops into hot oil. When puffs are brown, turn over and if you want, flatten them a little. Fry the other side until brown. Drain. Eat and enjoy.  e  Thursday  ...

Bake with Bizzy - Cheesy Mock Crab Wontons

Image
Wonton Warrior is a little jealous of Eggbert the Egg Roll Wrapper.  It seems his recipe got more peeks than the warrior's.  Since Wonton Warrior was the first to challenge Bizzy for his blog,  he thinks he has privileges, just for him.  Puff Pastry Pal, Phyllo Phil (who we have not yet met), Patty Pie Crust (another new comer) and Eggbert just don't agree.  Bizzy for sure doesn't and is thinking about locking Wonton Warrior, out of this blog.   No!  I love making the wonton recipes.  We can't let this happen.  I know.  I will share a wonton recipe with you, to keep him happy and hope, he doesn't read this. This is incredibly tasty and melds into the wonton wrapper.  Meld- not melt. *****It looks like, I did not take a picture of these.  Please, click over to allrecipes.com, if you want to see what they look like.  I am sorry.**** It is hard to believe, anyone could forget to take photos.  I don't go into th...

Mock Minis

Image
I love minis so when I discovered this Ellie Krieger recipe, I jumped to make it.  It calls for crab meat which I don't eat so I got a package of the mock crab meat and used that.  I have no idea as to the difference in taste but this was good so it suffices. I understand the appeal of minis.  They are easy to handle and to eat.  If one has self control, taking one is enough.  They are also adorable. Despite all this, do you know anyone who doesn't like a mini?  These are supposed to be more like puffs but there were some logistical problems with gluten products so I changed them and made these adorable tartlets.  Mock Minis Ingredients: 1 egg, beaten 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice 2 pieces of roasted red pepper  1/2 cup finely chopped red bell pepper 1 scallion, including green top, finely chopped 1 pound MOCK crab 3/4 cup corn meal 1/4 teaspoon salt Freshly ...
