Chocolate Fudgy Cookies

The second cookie, I am putting into my box for Baking Gals is this chocolate cookie that is not fudgy, nor really a strong chocolate but it is a really good cookie. It calls for 8 drops of food coloring although, it does not tell what color.  I omitted this since I could not understand the purpose.  I added a little vanilla to make up for the lack of food coloring (mine is liquid).  I also split the chocolate chips with some caramel chips

Chocolate Cookies  (adapted)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup margarine, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup chocolate hazelnut spread
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F . Line with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, cream together the margarine , white sugar and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Mix in the chocolate hazelnut spread. Combine the flour, baking powder, and baking soda; stir into the sugar mixture until just blended.
  4. Fold in chocolate chips.
  5. Drop dough by spoonfuls 2 inches apart onto the prepared cookie sheets. These cookies spread.
  6. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

  2. I have yet to try a chocolate hazelnut spread like Nutella. I agree, I'm not sure I've seen food coloring used in this type of cookie. Your version looks delicious. I'm glad you left it out. :)
